$20K Monthly Affiliate Commissions, High Value Freelance Writing, and More with Kevin Muldoon [TDI109]

kevin-muldoon-heading

Occasionally, I come across interviews that really go above and beyond my expectations. This interview is one of those – a treat, in my opinion.

Today’s guest is Kevin Muldoon, an internet entrepreneur who has done a ton of different things online (dating all the way back to 2000, which is a long time in internet years).  He has built and sold blogs, he’s made $20,000 a month in affiliate commissions in the gambling niche, and he’s done a lot of freelance writing/blogging.

This interview is jam-packed with lots of good advice and wisdom.  To start, Kevin walks us through his journey, which is really interesting in and of itself.  He also explains how he built large audiences for his blogs, and goes in depth about how (and why) certain writers can command over $100 per article.

Once again – lots of great content here – make sure you give this one a read.

What an Artist Can Teach Us About Entrepreneurship Online with Amantha Tsaros [TDI108]

Amantha-Tsaros-heading

As I’ve written about many times here, I love reading (and sharing) stories of entrepreneurs with unique online businesses.

Today’s guest, Amantha Tsaros, is an artist who sells her art and blogs at http://www.amanthatsaros.com.  Don’t get me wrong – I recognize that selling artwork is probably one of the oldest types of business in humankind, but it’s not often that internet entrepreneurs who focus on selling art are featured in interviews like these.

In this interview, we explore how Amantha operates her business selling artwork online.  It’s interesting to see how some traditional internet marketing tactics (like guest blogging and e-mail marketing) work for a business that sells artwork.  For example, Amantha’s been able to build a very targeted e-mail list that saw an open rate last month of 63% (which is awesome).

Anyway, read the interview for yourself and see what you think!

Why Your Work Ethic Is More Important than Anything Else with Catherine Alford [TDI107]

catherine-alford-heading

People often like to play up the importance of “luck” or being in the “right place at the right time,” when in reality, we all know what drives success: work ethic.  Hard work may not guarantee success, but it virtually eliminates the chances that you will fail forever (assuming you don’t give up).

Today’s guest, Catherine Alford (Cat), is a prime example of this.  She does what a lot of people do (freelance writing and blogging) in a niche that is saturated with writers (personal finance), yet she recognized early on that she could push through these barriers simply by working harder than other people (and not being afraid of rejection).

In this interview, Cat talks about how she got into blogging, the challenges she overcame, and how she managed to get published by The Huffington Post.  As you’ll find out, there was no magic at work here: she was persistent, worked extremely hard, and it ultimately paid off.

If you’ve been feeling like you’re spinning your wheels and not getting anywhere, this interview will give you the much needed motivation to put in some hard work.

Learning About the Only REAL Way to Be Unique as a Blogger with Ashley Barnett [TDI106]

ashley-barnett-heading

Time and time again, we read advice about how “being unique” and finding a way to stand out is the path to success as an entrepreneur (especially online).  Today we have another story that simply underscores this point even further.

Ashley has an interesting entrepreneurial story because she does a mix of things: she runs a personal finance blog, manages a landscaping company remotely, and has also written and published a Kindle eBook.

In this interview, she not only tells us about her journey and background, but talks about some difficult challenges she’s had to overcome, and explains how she stands out with her blog by being unique (and actually tells us what that means to her).

Enjoy!

How to Create Successful Mobile Apps with Zero Programming Experience with Andreas Kambanis [TDI105]

andreas-kambanis-heading

When mobile applications first became popular (most noticeably with the introduction of the iPhone and Apple App Store), there was somewhat of a gold rush.  App developers were creating games and other applications, and it seemed like every other week we were reading success stories of people who “hit it big” (and in some cases, made millions) with a simple app or game.

That was several years ago – today, the market is flooded with apps and there’s tons of competition.  And with a bit of money, you (and anyone else who isn’t a computer programmer), can have your own app developed.  It’s a lot harder to succeed in today’s environment.

For this reason, I’m excited about today’s interview with Andreas Kambanis, an app developer who has no programming experience.  Even in today’s competitive market, he’s creating successful apps and making good money with them.

In this interview, Andreas tells us about how he started his app business, the challenges he’s faced along the way, and the tips he has for anyone looking to create their own app.  As you might guess, simply creating a great app isn’t good enough to be successful.

Check out the interview and let me know what you think!

The TOP Strategies for Growing Your Blog’s Traffic, with Adam Connell from Blogging Wizard [TDI049]

adam-connell-heading

Note (7/10/14): This interview was originally published on 3/19/14. This week, we’re going to feature some of my favorite interviews that were published when The Daily Interview was brand new, that many of you may have missed. As I’m busy packing and getting ready to move to a new home later this month, I’ve decided to take another week off from posting new interviews. Don’t worry though – we’ll be back with new interviews starting next Monday. In the mean time, enjoy this one!

Today guest is Adam Connell from Blogging Wizard.  Adam’s had several great accomplishments online, but one that really sticks out to me is the fact he was able to create a blog in December of 2012 (in the super competitive niche of “blogging”) and really create a space for himself, all while working a full-time job.

In this interview, we talk about his background and how he got started with his blog, and then we dive into some really awesome tips about some of the best ways to take your site’s traffic to the next level.

(One of Adam’s traffic growth suggestions is something I hadn’t even heard about before.)

Enjoy the interview!

A 6-Figure Online Business that Sells Handkerchiefs with Steve Chou [TDI036]

Note (7/9/14): This interview was originally published on 2/28/14.

I love businesses that start from personal problems.

There’s something extra rewarding about doing something to solve a problem that you have, and then finding a way to turn it into a business.

That’s what Steve Chou and his wife did.  They took a simple problem that came about when they were planning their wedding – and couldn’t find the exact solution that they needed.  So they created the solution themselves.

This business (and you can read all the details about exactly what it is, in the interview) was so successful that it generated $100,000 of profit in the very first year.  That’s amazing.

There’s a great story here, and I know you’re going to really like it.

Enjoy!

“Don’t Quit, Get Laid!” – Leaving Wall Street for Blogging with Sam from Financial Samurai [TDI042]

Note (7/8/14): This interview was originally published on 3/10/14. :)

There are few people I admire more than Sam Dogen, the mastermind behind the blog Financial Samurai.

I love a great entrepreneurial story, but I especially love when it involves leaving behind a very successful career to pursue a genuine passion.  In Sam’s case, he worked on Wall Street for 13 years before his passion for blogging (and doing other projects on his own) pushed him to want to leave his job (in addition to feeling burned out).

Here’s where things got interesting: He didn’t quit. He engineered a layoff that basically allowed him to get paid a six-figure sum in the form of a severance package.

Even better, his blog has been a massive success (his writing is very interesting, especially if you’re into personal finance), and I think it still has room to grow.

You can read the interview to find out the rest of his story.

$23,596.88+ from 1 Month of Passive Income with Sunil from the Extra Money Blog [TDI032]

Note (7/7/14): This interview was originally published on 2/24/14. :)

You know those people who are such hard workers, that seemingly everything they touch “turns to gold”?

Sunil from The Extra Money Blog is one of those people.

Make no mistake – there were failures along the way.  And it wasn’t easy. But this is a guy who learns from his failures, pushes past them, and finds his way to success.

I happen to be a big fan of Sunil because we come from similar professional backgrounds (working for large, international public accounting firms), and he has found a way to generate a massive online income, while still maintaining a “normal” professional career.

(Spoiler alert: In this interview, he shares exactly how he was able to balance his professional career with his online passive income projects.)

I won’t spoil any more – you’ll have to read it for yourself.
